Discussion about how to navigate distractions, find community, and make progress even when there’s chaos going on around us.
After working 100% from home for the past 8 years, I’ve learned how to avoid the endless temptations to vacuum, organize the pantry, make yet another cup of coffee, or get sucked into a Netflix series.
I’ve learned how to navigate distractions, find community, and make progress even when there’s chaos going on around me.
Imagine that I launch my consulting practice in 2002, right after 9/11 because my husband and I as newlyweds move with job offers to Puerto Rico only to find out that the plans changed.
This is all a different ball game for all of us. {i.e. lock-down, distancing, homeschooling, churches closed, NFL games canceled... You know the list which goes on and on}
Before you dig in, I just want to say that I’m standing with you in this time of uncertainty. I know it’s not easy to keep moving toward your goals when there’s so much going on in the world.
In today's episode, we talk about the importance of
(1) Setting routines. You are not on vacation and should not be idle waiting for things to get resolved on their own.
(2) Your ultimate goal in the morning and evening
(3) Setting an end to your work schedule
(4) Having a positive outlook into the future
(5) Setting intentional time for your family and significant others even when you are seeing each other all the time.
I’m cheering you on from afar and hard at work creating even more resources to support you during this time! Like my free guide: ‘Working home productively: 5 strategies to get things done in uncertain times’. This guide does not repeat the concept discussed in the show but upgrades them into a practical guide to apply to your specific circumstances.

Julia Balto & Karem Mieses discuss What it means to ‘embrace the suck’ without wallowing in it Practical steps to take radical responsibility for your mindset, beliefs, actions, and habits
This is a really helpful tool for the next time you notice yourself stuck in a headspace of blaming, comparing, or feeling resentful, especially when it feels like a disproportionate emotional response to what’s actually happening. Instead of judging yourself or stuffing the feeling down, pause and say ‘Hmm, interesting. I’m feeling X.’ Give yourself permission to explore what you’re feeling, examine the story you’re telling yourself, and identify what you might need in order to validate and shift the way you feel.
KAREM’S EXPERIMENT OF THE WEEK
1) Practice stillness. Seek out moments without music, audiobooks, scrolling on your phone, making to-do lists, etc. Find creative ways to sit in quiet for 30 seconds to 10 minutes and allow your thoughts to come and flow.
2) Establish a ‘Gratefulness Roll Call’. This is one you can practice with the whole family. Make a daily practice of focusing on the big and small things that you’re grateful for right now, especially the little things and not waiting to celebrate just the Oscar moments.

Learn the underlying reason for feeling stuck and not doing what we know we have to do to level up our lives. Some experts call this self-sabotage
In this episode, we explore the underlying reason for feeling stuck and not doing what we know we have to do to level up our lives. Some experts call this self-sabotage but Julia gives it another name with a different angle: Resistance. We do not stop on our tracks consciously, and as overachievers, we do not want to sabotage ourselves. However, it is important to be aware of the situations that trigger you to postpone the actions that will move you forwards - the "procrastiplanning", as Karem calls it-. Let's dive in!

Today we're looking at what truly confident women say to themselves, how they think, and the actions they take to embody total confidence and self-love.

Building an Empire the Introvert Way with Kylee Hanson
You don't have to have a Type A personality, be extrovert or loud to claim what's yours in life.
In the whirlwind of the digital age, we have found that there's a lot of pressure to be on display and showing everything that we are doing at all times. This modality is creating a culture where our self-worth is starting to be tied to how busy, in-the-know & in-the-show, we are.
This needs to stop and we are here to cut the BS around success in this episode by featuring Ky-Lee Hanson, introvert, social changer, and boss woman at Golden Brick Road Publishing House.
ABOUT Ky-Lee Hanson

Ky-Lee Hanson is an “ideas” person; she envisions solutions to many of the world's issues. What does it take to live unapologetically with Mary Hodder Ross
In episode 29, I had the honor to interview published Author & speaker Mary Hodder Ross about honoring our life choices as “unnatural” as they might be so that we can have self-compassion and live an unapologetic life. We talk about self-worth, forgiveness and rising from the ashes to -like the phoenix- illuminate other people’s path to serve the greater good of all.
Mary Hodder Ross is an author, writer, and poet. Last year, she published her memoir as her first book. She tells us her story who as a young woman that gave up a child for adoption. That one decision changed her and the direction of her life. She kept what happened a secret for 30 years, taking on shame, regret, and sadness in a lonely plight to not reveal the truth for fear of ridicule.
She tells us that “I chose to finally write and tell my story because as a mature woman I realize that women are great keepers of secrets when we think the world will judge us harshly. We’d rather struggle in silence than heal. We’d rather hear the unbearable than being whole. I chose to shine a light on my story because it is the untold story of so many who deserve to be heard, to be seen and to be understood. My book is called An Unnatural Choice.”
Mary ultimately believes that her message is a powerful inspiration to women and I absolutely agree. Being whole and living openly and honestly is transformational. It frees us and gives us joy. It connects us to our best selves and allows us to do great things in service to others. Ms Ross’s story has been touching lives and making a difference in ways she never expected, for which she is truly grateful.
Are you ready to honor your choices no matter what and start living unapologetically?
With the greatest courage, Let's dive in!

A note from Mary Hodder Ross
1. I wrote my book first and foremost for my son that I gave up for adoption with the intent that he can know his story and with the hope that I will one day meet him.
2. I also wrote my book for other women - women who carry shame, sadness and regret in secret and often alone. I want to share my story with them. Inspire them to tell their own.
3. I want to shine a light on the frequently untold story of the birth mother and start a worldwide conversation from our perspective.
4. I want to let women see that we can be better, stronger and happier when we live honestly and authentically.
5. I want to reach women who are waiting to open up, who need someone like me to show them they are not alone.
What we hide serves no one and destroys our inner sense of worthiness. It limits us. It leaves us feeling less-than.
When we reveal our secrets others show up to say "me too" and we heal one another through admission and the release of hidden pain.”

How to Protect our Time, Energy, and Mood with Boundaries
How to tell if you’re lacking boundaries or that your boundaries aren’t being respected The reason boundaries are needed for you to show up as your most authentic, thriving self and how to start setting yours Specific boundaries to set around your time, relationships, finances, social media use, and recharging needs to truly take control of your mood and life
JULIA’S EXPERIMENT OF THE WEEK
Create a boundary around screen time. Social media and Netflix are Ah-mazing when we use them intentionally. They also tend to be what we use to numb our uncomfortable feelings instead of tuning into what those feelings are trying to tell us. Create an experiment around turning off all electronic devices an hour before bed or limiting TV episodes to one or two/day. Use that boundary to see what emotions and needs come up for you when you’re not numbing to highlight what other boundaries might allow you to really thrive.
